Broken Wing

.. but still beautiful, this butterfly landed on an empty pot on our deck for a few minutes, then fluttered off.

Another Dream

I had a dream that I got hired by a big company. The problem was that I jumped at the job before knowing anything about the benefits or the salary.

I gave notice at my current job and really hated doing it. My boss was understanding. My coworker was sad to see me go.

There was a big meeting at the new employer. They asked me why I worked at my current job for 27 years. I told them I’d been there for a year and 1/2. I asked what my salary was going to be, and they started asking me all kinds of questions about my work experience.

I thought, “Great… it doesn’t sound like they’re sure about hiring me and I already quit my other job.” I never did end up with an answer about my salary. They made fun of working at the small company. I told them I loved working at the small company I was at, and I could go back there if I wanted to.

A few weeks ago, I wondered (for real) what it would be like to leave my place of employment and work for a big company. What would it be like to quit? What would it be like to have a bigger salary? Then I decided that I didn’t need to leave because I enjoy where I am.

The only thing I would like to do better is work from home. :)

Road Trip

Today, we took our motorcycles around town to do errands. My husband is always trying to devise trips to wherever, just for the joy of riding through the countryside, which is fine. But with our 6-year-old, it’s hard to go any distance without her rear end hurting.

So we went to get hair cut. We went to the Harley Shop to harass the employees we know there. We then got on the busiest street in town against my better judgement, where we just had to be a little more watchful of the traffic, then onto the Interstate and over to Cabela’s to grab lunch and purchase some fish bait. We are still hoping there are fish.. somewhere… in the lake we fish at.

When we got home, my husband put on my shiny new foot pegs. They are big and flatter, so they should be a lot more comfortable to rest my feet on while I’m riding my bike. I’ll try them out tomorrow.

I had a dream..

… where I was with my old work buddies and everything was alright. There was no uneasiness. And I could only think, “Wow… the uneasiness is gone. People are talking to me just like I’m … me. Finally.”

Recently, I went to a birthday party for a friend of mine who turned 50, whom I used to work with at “that place” we won’t name. I thought it would be ok, but I felt like the black sheep. The couple of people I talked to asked me how I’d been and what I’d been doing since… They were nice enough, but I felt darn squirmy. We only stayed for 1/2 hour before I crawled out my skin and squeezed out the door.

It was just one of the odd points in my life lately.

The other day, a woman in my office asked me if the picture hanging on the wall of my daughter was my granddaughter.

I am still trying to figure that one out. I know there are a lot of grandparents at 43, but I am not one of them. :)

Council Bluffs STOP Program

Here is a nifty picture of my car running a red light. I only really know my car ran a red light because the Council Bluffs Police Department is running surveillance cameras which trigger at certain intersections when a car runs a red light.

The fine is $65.

We figured out what night this was, because we normally don’t travel to Council Bluffs, and yes, that probably was our car. The website was even kind enough to show us a video of the running of the red light.

What stinks is that, even if I’m not driving, if the car is registered to me, then I get the ticket. If I loan my car (willingly) to anyone, and they run the red light, I get the fine, and, I’m assuming, any points associated with the violation are assessed to my driver’s license.

That doesn’t seem fair, does it?

The only way I would have a chance of getting off of this ticket is if the car was stolen or if I had sold it.

I wasn’t driving my car when the police shot this lovely picture. The only reason this is more annoying is because, out of the two of us, my husband is least likely to commit an offense. He is a former police officer himself, and pretty consciencious about traffic rules.

And the one time he does something wrong, it’s caught on film.

It’s MY Turn!

Today, it is my birthday.
Getting older… it is way better than the alternative, yes? :)
