Not in the "Writing Every Day Trap"

although, I probably should be. :) My week has been crazy with lots of work stuff to do. Yesterday my coworker was gracious enough to train about 20 people on this program we’ve been having to transition people over to. We’ve had over 125 people to train, and I was getting burnt out. Next week should be “the end” of that. Thank God.

My car should be out of the shop next Thursday. The repairs to it from my bumper car incident: $3,000+. Not a good thing just before Christmas, but we’ll handle it.

Have a good day, everyone. :)

Thanksgiving, Football and Hockey, Oh My

We’ve just spent the last couple of days near Dallas with my family, including my parents, my 2 brothers and their wives and a total of 7 kids. Well, one kid is a high school kid, so he pretty much counts as an adult, but the rest needed to be managed. The youngest was a year old and the oldest, other than the high school kid, was around 11.

Thanksgiving dinner was wonderful, and way too much, as usual.

On the way home (an 11 hour trip, by the way), we were able to catch the Oklahoma v. Oklahoma State game on ESPN on the Internet. Couldn’t actually see the players, but we saw a graphic that showed us the plays as they were happening.

We were also able to read that Bill Callahan was fired, after leading the Nebraska Cornhuskers through a 5 – 7 season. Football is a big deal in Nebraska, and not going to a bowl game is a big deal to some people. Personally, we don’t care for Nebraska football, but we think the firing is a little silly. There’s more to football than coaching, you know, but then he’s making the recruiting policies, too. Well, not anymore. Still, firing this man probably means paying him the $5 million he was signed up to get in the next several years anyway.

And, since I’ve taken up a sudden interest in hockey, we listened to the Canadiens play Buffalo on XM Radio. I would have rather watched, because “getting” a hockey game is more difficult when you don’t understand the vocabulary behind it, while just listening. But I did learn there are 3 20-minute periods and 2 intermissions… and most of the players penalized in last nights’ game were penalized for “hooking“, which means that they used their stick to prevent someone from moving.. when they weren’t supposed to.

How was your Thanksgiving?

Bumper Cars

On the way to work today, I found myself in the midst of a traffic accident (my own). I looked away for a second to turn on my heat, and when I looked up, I was a foot away from the back end of a Toyota RAV SUV. I slammed on the brakes, but the pavement was wet, so I slid right into it.

We got out of our cars and I asked how she was. She had a sore neck from the sudden impact. Her car appeared to be no worse for the wear. My car had a totally messed up bumper, a sliced-through license plate and a bent hood.

I called my husband, who came down to the site of the accident to make sure I was alright. I called the police. The officer asked the other driver if we needed a report. She said, “Yes, just to document what happened”.

I asked her several times about her neck and she said she was going to let it ride and see how it goes. She made a point of saying, “I’m not going to screw you..” I said, “I’m not worried about that… I’m just worried about you.”

I got a ticket for following too close (way too close, I guess) and have an opportunity to go to traffic school to get rid of the ticket. It would help me at work. They don’t like tickets there.

My husband decided to immediately take the car into the collision shop. The insurance company blessed the repairs. The collision shop is all set to repair. It’s good to get it done and over with.

Part of me wonders about the lady whose vehicle I hit. I mean, when you screw up, it’s nice not to hurt other people in the process.

On the other hand, it could have been a lot worse. We passed another accident where an ambulance had been called. :( Also, I’m grateful my daughter was not in the car at the time. I guess there is a bright side.

Weekend Stuff

Our supposed goal this weekend is to rip up carpet. The carpet is being replaced because we found some good carpet on sale, and because our existing carpet is probably 15-20 years old. To save money, we are ripping up the old carpet and getting rid of it.

We are hoping our new carpet will be at Home Depot by early next week. We will be out of town for most of the week, so we’re hoping for a Monday installation (Nov 26). We’ll see how that all goes.

The pain is going to be getting our furniture out of the way for the carpet installers. We only have two places to shove things… well, maybe more. Options:

  • The dining room
  • One of two bathrooms
  • The lower living room, if we really feel like lugging things around
  • The kitchen

Bike Riding

It was a nice afternoon, so I decided to come home and get my motorcycle for lunch. I needed a ride. My day had been pretty frustrating, and a nice bike ride seems to help.

The only problem was that my knee was killing me, and has been for a few days, at least. I injured my knee last winter while helping to push a truck out of a snow drift. Something snapped, so now it either clicks when I walk, or it hurts like hell.

Not being able to bend it without pain makes for some painful shifting, which is done with the foot that belongs to that knee.

I had to make an effort not to put that foot down on the pavement first when I stopped, too.

But, hey, I had a good ride, other than that.

What’s In There?

Borrowed from Gem’s site:

1. What’s in your medicine cabinet? Well, the official medicine cabinet has vitamins (men’s, women’s, children’s), a potpouri of prescription meds, some Tylenol, Motrin, Aspirin and cold medication. Oh, and 2 large bottles of flax seed oil (not mine)

2. What’s in your wallet? credit cards, my driver’s license, and that’s pretty much it. I don’t carry cash.

3. What’s in your bag/briefcase/backpack/purse? My purse contains my wallet and hopefully my car keys. During the week, it could also contain my cell phone, my ipod, my ipod charger, a can of diet Coke and a Yoplait yogurt.

4. What’s in your glove box? My car’s owner’s manual and various repair and maintenance receipts.

5. What’s in your imagination? Right now, I am imagining being asleep. I’m quite tired.
