I was nominated

for my company’s employee of the year award. I looked down the list of questions, which included several personal questions:

1. What do you do in your spare time?
2. Do you have any church or community affiliations?
3. Have you won any awards or commendations?
4. What are your personal goals?

Part of me wanted to say, “Can you please just take my name off the list?” I didn’t want to answer any of these questions. But that would be rude.

I went to meet with the VP of Marketing. Sweet woman, probably around my age, and very friendly. She interviewed several people who had been nominated. We all had this set of questions to answer, along with several work-related or company-related questions.

She asked me about my contribution to my team. I mentioned something about communication and documentation and being team-oriented.

She said..

“One thing I’ve noticed about you is that you’re always on an even keel. It doesn’t matter what’s going on.. you could be really frazzled inside, for all I know, but you never show it. You just float gracefully along.”

You can’t beat that.

I remember a couple of years ago when I never thought I would find a better job than the one I had. I laugh at that now.

I Remember Everything You Say..

Ever have one of those people in your life where you can remember everything they say (everything important, that is) and when they said it?    Can you still say “yes” to that question, even when you can’t remember, having been in Wal-Mart (or Sainsbury’s) for an hour or more, where the heck your car is parked?  ;)

It’s the Weekend…

.. and I’m not going anywhere. It feels odd. I’ve been away the last two weekends. I suppose I could have stayed in Dallas forever and been perfectly happy, really. It was so nice and warm and the company was quite good. I enjoyed that time immensely, and I enjoyed the weekend before (although I’m not quite as fond of Kansas City as I used to be) with my other brother’s family.

Me… being with my original family… a rare occurence.

My parents are currently vacationing this week in Natchez, MS. I bet it’s warm there, too. I only mention it because, while yesterday was in the upper 70’s F, today is not quite as luxurious.

My life… somewhat upside down. Someone will be along later to say, “It’s going to be fine.” I know it will be. Life has a habit of being fine, doesn’t it. There are blessings to be counted, there are things to look forward to you. For everything inbetween, there are Kleenex.   (and chocolate animal crackers dipped in cream cheese frosting)   :)

A Song For You

Sorry this video couldn’t be better, but out of the many, many artists who sang this song, next to Ray Charles, this was the best rendition.

Muchas Gracias

I owe a world of thanks to some significant people in my life this week.    Turns out, the horoscope man  (see two posts below) was quite correct.   It IS time to turn my life upside-down, shake it out and look forward to possibilities.   Difficult decisions are on the horizon, but so are some very nice ones, I suspect.    What is important is that I have people in my life who feed into my heart, into my soul and have me coming up for a fresh breath of air when I really need one.

Good things to come.    Keep believing.

Christening

Over the weekend, my daughter and I made a trip southward to attend the Christening of my niece. I am the Godmother, and very proud to be.

When I first held my goddaughter, she cried and cried. But then I started talking to her in her language (mostly “a-gooo” and other babyspeak) and sticking out my tongue at her, which she thought was very funny… and we hit it off quite well.

I feel a special bond with all of my nieces and newphews.   I’ve been lucky enough to see all of them within the last two weekends, between my trip to Kansas City and my trip to Dallas.

Our plane trip yesterday was interesting.  We got to the airport at 8pm.   We had to check the baggage in with the carrier, then hand it over to TSA.   I wanted to tell them, “You DO NOT want to open this bag”, only because it was smashed shut in order to zip it shut.   I thought they might take it the wrong way.  :)

My daughter and I were already exhausted.   It had been a long day.    Then the flight was delayed for an hour.  I informed my daughter.    She said, “shit”.    I had to laugh, then tell her to not say that word anymore.   She apologized, saying, “Sorry.. that just came out.”    (could have been worse, right?)

Then, the gate was changed, requiring us to go upstairs and take the tramway over to another terminal.

We finally took off at 10:15pm.   My daughter feel to sleep immediately.  I fell asleep somewhere inbetween the flight attendant leaving me with coffee and picking up my coffee.   :)

We landed in Omaha just before midnight.   TLK said, “Mom… that flight felt like it was just 2 seconds.”  :)

If you believe in horoscopes..

“Slowly, you are starting to make sense of your latest idea. As your circumstances change, you can see more ‘use’ for the notion that you keep entertaining. As you keep entertaining it, it keeps entertaining you. At the moment, there’s something rather irritatingly tantalising about the vision. It is shrouded in mist. You can’t pin it down or fully define its shape. Yet with each passing moment, the fog is lifting and it is getting easier to appreciate the true significance of your instinctive preference. This week’s Full Moon is your invitation to move beyond the conventional realm.”
