Nebraska Humane Society – Walk for the Animals

“The Animals Need Your Help”.    Every day, the Nebraska Humane Society takes in homeless animals and hopes to place them in “forever homes”; cats, dogs, pocket pets, all sorts.    The animals who find their way here and are in good enough shape to be adopted are placed in the adoption area until they are adopted.

Not all pets are suitable for the adoption program, sadly, due to pet demeanor and/or the acts (sometimes) of humans, sometimes acting, they feel, in the best interests of pets (an example being a slighly “off” woman who collected homeless cats.. to the point where the house was full of cats and she couldn’t find a way to feed them all).   Sometimes not.

The Humane Society does a good job.   When, for example, loads of cats are brought in from a slighly “off” woman’s house, they make a plea on the news for supplies.     People from around the area buy loads of cat food and whatever else they need and deliver it to them.

At the last minute, I decided walking my dogs for a good cause was a good idea.   I walked with my daughter and some people from work.    There were 100’s of dogs there!     It was a bit of work not to get entangled with other dogs and baby strollers.     By the time I got home, I was exhausted!    But in every way, this was a good experience; a good way to get some exercise, and a good way to meet LOTS of dogs.

Speaking of animals at the Humane Society, my mother will be appalled, but I have my eye on a domestic rat whose name is Oreo.   We saw Oreo today, but he was sleeping at the time.     I’ll be interested to go in there sometime without the dogs and see what Oreo is like.   I’m not sure I can get a rat, but they look pretty cute.

Nick’s Day of Play

Nickolodeon is doing something brilliant.    I found out as my daughter said, “MOM!?   Nick’s shut down until 3pm!”

It’s a Worldwide Day of Play.

They want kids to go outside and play.

Good idea.   :)

A Week From Today

I will be on a plane en route to London.    :)     The first leg of my trip was changed today, so that I leave earlier than anticipated.  Yay!     I have a few hours in the airport before taking off on the long part of the flight.     I’ve never been on a plane for 7 hours before.   This ought to be interesting.  I know.. I should be sleeping through it.    I’m thinking about getting some Benedryl to help me sleep.   I have Ambien, but the thought of taking a hypnotic on an international flight amongst people I don’t know…. not such a good idea, IMO.

I hope that the air traffic computer system is repaired by then.   :D

My friend, Lori, invited me to lunch the Saturday I’m going to be gone.  I told her it was a tough choice, but I would have to meet her some other time.

LOL

I’m Yours (The Song in my Head)

I love this song.    It’s carefree and happy.    For some reason, it seems like there should be a ukelele in it.

The end of an odd day

To do it properly, you have to:

1) play hide-and-seek with TLK, after homework, but before scarfing chocolate cookies

2) drink lots of frozen sangria

3) take a bath in new Avon relaxing-scent bath whatever

4) write a few emails

5) go to bed

Tomorrow is Wednesday.   Train again (first thing, of course), meet to talk about strange pager arrangements, lookat content management for the Internet, figure out scheduling (since all of the schedules have expired..  lol)  talk to interesting people… umm… count days.

Oh… must go to the grocery.  I wonder if Tesco delivers this far?   Ok… maybe just Hy-Vee then.

Fast Approaching (thank God)

My work has been keeping me inordinately busy.      Today, I had two classes to train on various things, and other stuff being presented for consideration .. before I go on vacation.    You know you’ve been kept busy enough when your boss says, “How long before your vacation?” and you say…

“My last day is Wednesday of next week.”

.. and think to yourself..

“is that right??”   :)

Realistic goal for February

Everyone needs a goal.   I’m starting to build personal goals, parenting goals and couple goals.

I haven’t really thought about goals in ages.   Now my head is full of them.

I think it’s a matter of being able to think about the future and see it as something exciting.  :)

Virtual Model

Last night, I was playing with this site, called “My Virtual Model“    It’s fun, because you can make your model and try on different virtual outfits.  Once you pick out a virtual outfit, it shows you loads of real outfits just like it, in various stores.

Dangerous for shoppers, but kind of cool if you’re shopping online and want to see what something will look like together.

Guess who came along and wanted to try it, too?    Miss “Yellow” over there.   :)

You can’t say I don’t find interesting stuff on the Internet.

Ok.   Maybe you can.

I’m Not Biased

I just know what I like.     What seems like ages ago, I asked for and received a 10 or 20 minute story about Grand-Mère, a french woman Ian provided care for following several strokes.    It was fascinating (really).

I mention this because Ian has put together something I recommend having a look at.   It is a poem and a reading of the poem he wrote about her.

Go see (or hear… whichever you prefer.. I highly recommend listening to the audio).

Cat Rescue (or lack thereof)

I was reminded of this while talking to Ian earlier today.

One day, many years ago, I was in my apartment with my cat, Gizmo, a himalayan.    I went out to the balcony and closed the sliding glass door, which, for some reason, caused the lock to engage.   This isn’t what it’s supposed to do.

I was standing out on the balcony contemplating what to do next.    I had no phone with me, and it was a story up.  I thought trying to climb down might be a bad idea.

I looked at Gizmo.   He was sitting inside… staring at me… like, “What the heck are you doing?”

“Let me in, Gizmo.”

Nothing.

Of course.

Finally, the neighbor came out on his balcony and asked if I was stuck outside.    The office was called and I was rescued.   :)

Gizmo was a good, but never could figure out how to work the lock.   Beyond reasonable expectations, I suspect.
